I am saddened to share the news of the death of past IFC Chair and IFRT member Candy Morgan on December 16th. Candy also served as President of the Freedom to Read Foundation.
She retired as Associate Director of Community Services at Fort Vancouver Regional Library and was an instructor in Emporia State's SLIS program for many years.
She was a long time volunteer in ALA and was a fierce and dedicated supporter of the First Amendment, working with both the ACLU and the Freedom to Read Foundation to support civil rights and the education of library professionals. In addition, she was a mentor and friend to many librarians and activists - including myself. I have missed her, and will continue to miss her.
Her family has asked that any memorial contributions in Candy's honor be made to:
1. ACLU of Oregon (https://www.aclu-or.org/en/donate)
2. Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation (https://fvrlfoundation.org/how-to-contribute/)
3. Freedom to Read Foundation (https://www.ftrf.org/page/Donate)
A Celebration of Life program and buffet will be held February 18th, 2024, 2-5 PM at Willamette View Retirement community, The Blue Heron Auditorium, 12705 SE River Road, Portland. If you would like to send a personal note to the family, please forward it to the OIF staff and we will make sure that the family receives it.
A copy of Candy's obituary is attached.
