Hi all,
On behalf of the IFRT Programming and Events Committee, I'm pleased to announce the return of IFRT Reads, our virtual book club focused on topics related to intellectual freedom. For our first event, we will focus on a chapter from Andrea Jamison's book Decentering Whiteness in Libraries: A Framework for Inclusive Collection Management Practices. We'll be reading chapter 2: Understanding the Library Bill of Rights and its Significance to Diversity in Collection Development (and if your library doesn't have a copy, consider purchasing one for your collection). The plan is to have the discussion over two sessions: the first session will be on Wednesday, January 24th at 3 p.m. Eastern / 2 p.m. Central / 1 p.m. Mountain / noon Pacific to share initial impressions and generate questions for the author, who will join us for the second session on Tuesday, February 27th at 3 p.m. Eastern / 2 p.m. Central / 1 p.m. Mountain / noon Pacific.
You can register for the first session now. We are working with Core to co-sponsor this series and they will be the virtual hosts for the February discussion, so for now please save the date for the second session and watch for an announcement next month with more details on how that will work.
In the meantime, if you have suggestions for books, chapters, articles, or other content that you'd like to see featured in IFRT Reads, please let us know!
Looking forward to discussing this reading with you, and hope you have a happy new year!
