    Dear all,

It is the saddest news we share here about the loss of our valued member with the death of map librarian Nancy Kandoian, on May 16, 2022, after a long illness.

Nancy Kandoian served the New York Public Library's Lionel Pincus and Princess Firyal Map Division for 44 years, beginning as a map information assistant and going on to help shape the field of map librarianship, especially through her tireless dedication to the practice of map cataloging, her service at the reference desk in the Map Division, and her mentorship and training of countless colleagues, both at the NYPL and across the United States.

Nancy provided extensive service and leadership to the American Library Association (ALA), in its Map & Geospatial Information Round Table (MAGIRT), for decades, where she successfully fulfilled the duties as a contributing editor of base line from 1982 to 1993; served as a leader in the Ethnic & Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table (EMIERT); Regional Coordinator for the Online Guide to U.S. Map Collections; and as member of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) of its Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), where she held the position of liaison for nearly 20 years.

Some of you may have known Nancy and would like to express your condolences. Iris Taylor and I have been working on an electronic sympathy card/booklet, that we will print out and present to the family with your remembrances of Nancy.

If you want to sign the virtual card, please use the link below (look for the blue "sign card" button on the top-right; it will add more pages as each new person signs). Also, if you previously posted a message on social media (Maps-L), it has already been transferred to this virtual card, but please know, you may sign the card again.

Please sign before July 10, 2022. Here is the link:  https://www.groupgreeting.com/sign/805cb72ad9aaffc

Here are the details on the memorial service for Nancy. It will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Noon (The celebration of life is from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, William G. Basralian Funeral Home, 559 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell, NJ  07649).
