The Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT) provides a forum for the discussion of activities, programs, and problems in intellectual freedom of libraries and librarians.

The IFRT Members Community group is the central hub for discussion, library and events. It is visible to all ALA members but only IFRT members can participate in the conversation.

    Hello IFRT Family!

As we near the end of 2021 I want to write this message of appreciation to all of you. As many of you know, when I was elected Chair-Elect I was fairly new to IFRT after being introduced to the Round Table as the sponsored Emerging Leader. Then due to some unforeseen circumstances I was moved from Chair-Elect to Chair. I admit that I was nervous about taking the helm, but I vowed to learn as much as I could as quickly as I could from all of you, and work hard to Chair this Round Table. Everyone-from the Office for Intellectual Freedom, especially Kristin and Deborah, to the Chairs and past Chairs of the Round Table and the Committees-have been patient, supportive, and phenomenal at their work for the IFRT.

As Intellectual Freedom Defenders we have had to deal with challenges to library materials by legislatures, school boards, and our very own patrons, while still dealing with challenges from this ongoing pandemic. As we continue into 2022 I am excited about the work that IFRT will continue to do. I also ask that you take time this Holiday Season to take care of yourselves. This work is rewarding but can take a toll on our physical and mental health. A couple of my favorite resources are Mindfulness In LIS and The Nap Ministry. Again, I appreciate all of you so much and I am truly looking forward to working with you this year. Please feel free to add an encouraging or holiday message to this thread or to tell us about your favorite self-care activity or resource. Also, don't forget to support and promote The Merritt Fund! Happy Holidays!

    In Gratitude,

    Rhonda Evans, Chair - IFRT
