My career in public libraries came through the jail (after academic, and archives). I grew to care for prisoners but walked a fine line of empathy and enforcement. Leaving, and going into the public, I was the enforcer, and we called officers for vandalism, and petty theft. I knew many of them, who had transferred from the harsh corrections environment. I was surprised to move to my present library with a population of displaced persons in the area. There was a team of resource officers who don't arrest, but instead match persons up with the resources they need. I encourage you to sign up for the webinar this Friday at 2:00 Central time, Asset not Arrest: Police in the Library.
