  • 1.  ALA Connect community set up to facilitate online discussion on FDLP Issues within ALA

    Posted Nov 11, 2011 09:02 AM

    Hiya all--

As mentioned in my previous post, an ALA Connect community has been set up to facilitate online discussion.  This community, entitled FDLP Issues within ALA, has been set up and is available to ALA members at http://connect.ala.org/node/160201.  The goal is as ALA's Committee on Legislation works through the process outlined below by Eva Poole, COL chair, this will be site for online discussion.  At this point there is not a lot of information but please check back as the site becomes more populated with information and discussions.  As specific discussions are inititated on the site, I or ALA will be sending out notices to ALA members.

In addition there is the following website that contains information and official correspondence related to recent FDLP issues, http://www.ala.org/ala/issuesadvocacy/advleg/federallegislation/govinfo/fdlp/index.cfm.

An additional 200,000 are available from other Google partners, and the project continues with an approximate target of digitizing a total of 1+ million print documents.

Hi Kirsten, the above line is from the Hathi Trust Constitutional Convention ballot proposal which passed related to government information.  Is this still true?  Also, what you’ve put together is terrific.  Would you add another POV and include http://freegovinfo.info/node/3539 Suzanne Sear’s response to the ARL statement, and also, http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/38FBBJR, a link to the online petition in support of GPO.  Then ALAers will have a more complete lay of the land.  I am a member of the ALA ACRL Government Relations Committee, and the committee will also be revising its legislative update for 2012 on GPO FDLs, and related.  Jeff Bullington is the committee chair.  Thanks!

    Hiya all--

Mary brings up a point of adding points of view to the discussion.  My undertanding from ALA is that the node allows for people to add additional resources to the discussion and this is a place for points of views that have been made and will continue to be made.  Any ALA member can add information to this community, http://connect.ala.org/node/160201.

With regards to the links on the ALA website, Jessica McGilvray from the ALA Washington Office (jmcgilvray@alawash.org and at 1-800-941-8478) is in charge of the website, http://www.ala.org/ala/issuesadvocacy/advleg/federallegislation/govinfo/fdlp/index.cfm.  If you feel there are additional resources that should be added to this page, please contact her or Eva Poole (Eva.Poole@cityofdenton.com).
