Due to ALA Connect's outage, this is the first opportunity I've had to share the outcome of GODORT's Title 44 recommendation process.
Thanks to the work of Chair-Elect Hallie Pritchett, Legislation Chair Geoff Swindells, and Aimée Quinn, along with myself and others including past-chairs of the Depository Library Council, we were able to meet the deadline to submit GODORT's recommendations regarding Title 44 to ALA Washington Office (WO) and Committee on Legislation (COL). This document represents shared values and vision, and proposes a possible pathway forward for changes to Title 44 that modernize the FDLP while strengthening the program as a network for access and preservation.
Our recommendations are to a substantial extent reflected in WO's document that was sent to Congress late last week. WO will share the document via its blog in the near future; I've attached it here for your information.
As the process of working with Congressional staff moves forward, I will continue to communicate the values we've identified in our recommendations, and I invite you all to do the same. Comments are welcome here, or directly to me at slaster@ucsb.edu.
