The mission of the Games and Gaming Round Table is to provide the following:
  • A forum for the exchange of ideas and concerns surrounding games in libraries;
  • Resources to the library community to support the building and maintaining of library game collections;
  • A force for initiating and supporting game programming in libraries;
  • Create an awareness of, and need for, the support of the value of gaming and play in libraries, schools, and related learning communities.
  • Create an awareness of the value of games and gaming in library outreach and community engagement plans.
  • A professional and social forum for networking among librarians and non-librarians interested in games and gaming.

    Want to help shape the future of GameRT? Nominations are open for the 2023 election! Nominations close on December 16, 2022.

    GameRT provides a venue for librarians interested in the use of games and gaming in libraries of all types a place to gather and share. 

    The mission of the GameRT is to provide the following:
    • A forum for the exchange of ideas and concerns surrounding games in libraries;
    • Resources to the library community to support the building and maintaining of library game collections;
    • A force for initiating and supporting game programming in libraries;
    • Create an awareness of, and need for, the support of the value of gaming and play in libraries, schools, and related learning communities;
    • Create an awareness of the value of games and gaming in library outreach and community engagement plans;
    • A professional and social forum for networking among librarians and non-librarians interested in games and gaming.
    Our projects and programs include: International Games Month (Nov); presence at ALA Annual with events like ALA Play, Trivia Competition, and Mystery Hunt; Game On! Grant; and professional development webinars via Zoom and Twitch. We also strive to partner with other ALA round tables with shared interests, like GNCRT and FMRT.

    We are seeking candidates for the following positions:

    President-Elect:
    a three-year commitment that proceeds from President-Elect (2023-24) to President (2024-25) to Past-President (2025-26). This position selects committee chairs for the round table, represents GameRT at ALA meetings, and oversees the general direction of the round table by setting goals.

    Councilor: a three-year commitment, this position represents GameRT interests on ALA Council and brings matters to Council for discussion on behalf of GameRT, as well as provides updates to GameRT about Council initiatives.

    Member-at-Large (x3): a two-year commitment that is best suited for enthusiastic members who want to remain more engaged in the programming activities of the round table while serving on the board and are comfortable bringing member concerns forward as they emerge.

    All board positions attend monthly board meetings via Zoom, as well as any committee meetings for committees they choose to be on (maximum of two).
