In partnership with the American Indian Library Association, EMIERT will host a panel discussion, which will delve into the critical importance of presenting an honest and comprehensive narrative of American history. We will explore the ethical responsibilities of archivists and historians, the impact of self-censorship on public understanding, and the necessity of confronting uncomfortable truths to foster a more informed and inclusive society.
Additionally, we will address the disturbing trend of marginalizing American Indian history, such as the incident in Houston where libraries cataloged this important history as fiction. This practice not only undermines the authenticity of American Indian experiences but also contributes to a broader pattern of historical erasure and marginalization.
Join us on December 4, 2024 at 3pm Central/4pm Eastern as we address the challenges and implications of recent actions by the National Archives and advocate for the preservation of historical integrity.
