Pre-ALA Conference Workshop June 25th

  • 1.  Pre-ALA Conference Workshop June 25th

    Posted 3 hours ago

    "On Thursday, June 25, ALA and the Interfaith Alliance will be facilitating a preconference workshop on how faith communities and librarians can advocate together for libraries, library workers, and the freedom to read. This is part of the Faith for Libraries campaign, which is bringing faith community members and leaders to support libraries and the right to read as a matter of conscience and to protect access to all stories.

    This workshop could be of interest [to our ongoing work], given that the pro-censorship movement has been targeting books by and about different ethnic and cultural communities and this preconference event is a chance to network, learn, and strategize on ways to counter censorship.

    Speakers will include

    • Rabba Rori Picker Neiss, Orthodox rabbi and Senior Vice President and Rabbi in Residence at the Jewish Council for Public Affairs;
    • Rev. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, the president of the Interfaith Alliance;
    • Rev. Dr. Velda Love, the United Church of Christ Minister for Racial Justice;
    • Qiana Johnson, Associate Dean of Libraries, Collections and Content Strategies at Dartmouth Libraries
    • Sherry Scheline, President of the Association for Rural and Small Libraries
