What You Will Be Doing

The Alaska State Library is on the lookout for a dynamic librarian to serve as the Online With Libraries (OWL) Program Manager and Library Technology Consultant. In this pivotal role, you will empower Alaska librarians by providing professional and technical guidance in public internet access, videoconferencing, and library technology. You will help fortify local library services by identifying and selectively engaging in technology projects and grant opportunities that strengthen and elevate these services. You will manage the OWL Program and assist libraries with technology and video conference equipment, software, training, and troubleshooting to make their services top-notch. From tiny remote libraries in the wild to bustling city book havens, you will contribute to enhancing library services for people of all ages across Alaska.

Who We Are Looking For 

To be successful in this role, a candidate will need the following experiences, skills, and abilities:

• Experience with public internet access management and optimization, including familiarity with internet security, privacy issues, and accessibility standards.
• Experience managing budgets and grant programs, including understanding of grant reporting and compliance.
• Experience delivering instructional or continuing education programs.
• Familiarity with video conferencing software, hardware, platforms, and best practices.
• Knowledge of library broadband programs, technologies, and infrastructure.
• Knowledge of emerging technology, information management systems, and digital resources relevant to library services.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited university in library or information science, media services, or a closely related field;

AND

• Two years of advanced-level professional librarian experience with independent responsibility for multiple functional areas of library work, such as classification and cataloging, reference services, circulation, collection acquisition, development, and preservation, or library webpage services. This experience is met by service as a Librarian 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
