The FAST Project, co-funded by the European Union, seeks to design and implement innovative teaching materials that introduce the Holocaust through visual narratives in English Language Teaching (ELT) with the aim of fostering Global Citizenship Education. The selected literature, picturebooks and graphic novels, depict Jewish lived experiences during the Holocaust and will be used as a teaching resource for learners in upper-primary and lower secondary ELT education (age 10-14) to inspire young global agents of change using English as a lingua franca.
FAST is rooted in visual children's Holocaust literature. Whereas literature as such might not 'fight antisemitism', it can contribute to knowledge, empathy, and understanding, and encourage resistance and action. In this way, the FAST project aims to contribute to the fight against distortion, denial, and discrimination.
The book that goes along with the project is here. The FAST Project Team has selected four picturebooks and four graphic novels in order to develop eight lesson plans with ELT-based activities, as well as cross-curricular activities.
There will be a free online event next Wednesday, March 25, at 8 am EST. You can sign up with the QR code below:
