  • To serve as a source of information on recommended ethnic collections, services, and programs.
  • To organize task forces, institutes, and workshops to carry out the functions of the Round Table as defined in the petition.
  • To develop for Annual conferences forums and symposia programs that deal with the key issues of ethnicity and librarianship.
  • To maintain a liaison with the Office of Library Outreach Services and cooperate with other ALA units, including the caucuses in joint projects for the betterment of outreach services.
  • To disseminate the work of the Round Table through a program of publications

    Carnegie-Whitney Awards up to $5,000 for Guides to Library Resources 

    The American Library Association Publishing Committee provides a grant of up to $5,000 for the preparation of print or electronic reading lists, indexes or other guides to library resources that promote reading or the use of library resources at any type of library.

    Funded projects have ranged from "A Resource Guide about Disabilities, Disability Theory, and Assistive Technologies" to "A Bibliography for Queer Teens" to "Graphic Novels & the Humanity of Mental Illness" to "Web Accessibility Resources for Libraries". 

    Applications must be received by November 7, 2025. Recipients will be notified by February 2026.
