ALCTS CRS College and Research Libraries Interest Group

  • 1.  Future of ALCTS CRS?

    Colleagues,

With the transition to CORE now in full motion, we are being asked for input on whether the ALCTS CRS (College and Research Libraries Interest Group) should continue under CORE. The deadline to respond is December 31, 2020, at which time interest groups that do not charter as a new Core IG will be considered dissolved. To continue under CORE:

    • Chairs and co-chairs of Core interest groups must be members of Core.
    • All IGs will be free for anyone to join, including non-Core and non-ALA members.
    • All Core IGs will live in ALA Connect and will use the site's email-based discussion feature to communicate.
    • Discussions and files for IGs will be publicly viewable without having to log in to ALA Connect, but only people who join the group in Connect will be able to post discussions, comments, or files.
    • IG conveners will be required to submit quarterly reports describing progress toward completing their selected deliverables.
Given the recent, relative inactivity of the College and Research Libraries Interest Group, I recommend that the IG not charter under CORE but instead open the way for members of CORE to charter new IGs as interest and enthusiasm guide the new division's development.  However, I want to be sure the current IG membership has opportunity to discuss this before the deadline next month.

Please respond with your thoughts. If there is sufficient interest in seeing the IG continue, there's plenty of time to throw our hat in the ring!

      Best, JM
