Funding cuts, contract cancellations and firings at the U.S. Department of Education were an unspoken agenda item at the 50th annual convening of the Association for Education Finance and Policy earlier this month in Washington. Hundreds of education researchers, activists, graduate students and district staffers exchanged concerns about the future of the public's insight into schools.

Ironically, those worries emerged as the association unveiled a critical new tool: its Live Handbook. Sort of a Wikipedia for education policy research, the handbook gathers and distills the findings of thousands of studies on topics ranging from preschool, higher education, school boards and charter schools to vouchers, teacher preparation programs and the effects of education spending. We should probably acknowledge that the 74, started by Campbell Brown and friends back in 2015, does have a pro-education-reform political slant.

So if you want to get your distilled education policy research from an organization that isn't as "yea! education reform," you might want to check out the National Education Policy Center out of University of Colorado Boulder.
