Applications Open for 2025 AASL Awards Applications are now open for AASL's 2025 awards and grants. AASL members are encouraged to nominate a colleague or themselves to be lauded for their outstanding talent and dedication to the profession as part of this prestigious awards program. AASL awards and grants recognize excellence and showcase best practices in the school library field in categories that include collaboration, leadership, and innovation. AASL President Becky Calzada will host the first AASL Gathering on September 12, 2024 at 6:00 pm CT. The guest for the event will be Dr. Joyce Valenza. During the gathering, Joyce will invite attendees to consider the notion of unreasonable hospitality, connect dots you aren't currently seeing, engage in brainstorming for radical change, and play with creating aspirational, human-centered goals that demonstrate impacts and leadership in and beyond school library walls. | Celebrating the Freedom To Read: Book Banning, Censorship, and Democracy Join Antioch University and AASL on September 24 as they bring together a panel of experts for a conversation around democracy, censorship, libraries, and books. Speakers include Miranda Doyle winner of the Intellectual Freedom Award in Oregon, Dr. Sheri Massey, school librarian and 2023 Maryland School Librarian of the Year, and Allison Jennings-Roche, librarian and expert on censorship and democracy. The panel will be moderated by Becky Calzada, AASL president. Applications Open for 2025 Class of ALA Emerging Leaders ALA is now accepting applications for the 2025 class of Emerging Leaders (EL). The ALA EL program is a leadership development program which enables newer library workers from across the country and Canada to participate in problem-solving work groups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. The deadline to apply is Friday, September 6, 2024. Nominations Open for the 2025 I Love My Librarian Award ALA invites library users to submit nominations for the I Love My Librarian Award through September 30, 2024-ten amazing librarians will receive $5,000 and the honor of a lifetime.
