This authentic and approachable guide to culturally responsive pedagogy, published by AASL and ALA Editions is aligned with the National School Library Standards. | Applications to Serve on the AASL Standards Committee Due June 6 AASL is seeking school librarians to serve on the AASL Standards Committee with the charge of reviewing and evaluating the supporting content and material of the National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries. Members will be asked to update, write, and revise chapter content, appendices, and supporting materials as needed to reflect the current education environment. 2023 AASL Research Grants Awarded Three research papers have been awarded AASL Research Grants by the Educators of School Librarians Section (ESLS) of AASL. Sponsored by ABC-CLIO, the grants recognize excellence in manuscripts addressing a persistent and recurring challenge in the field of school librarianship. Each grant consists of a $350 award and the researchers will present their papers at the 2023 AASL National Conference in Tampa, Florida. AASL's Community of Scholars Presents Review of Research in School Library Research In the recently published "School Libr*: A Review of Published Research Articles from 2019," Sue Kimmel, Jennifer Moore, Rebecca Morris, Audrey Church, and Ann Dutton Ewbank present a review of research related to school librarian practice. The AASL Strategic Plan (2019) also included five core values: learning; innovation; equity, diversity, and inclusion; intellectual freedom; and collaboration. This review also explores how published research in 2019 reflects the core values. The students provide clear suggestions and strategies by encouraging authentic conversations about identity and bias, getting to the root causes, and implementing policies and practices to improve school culture.
