Membership in the AASL Chapters Forum is open to all and may include the state-level school library association’s president/chair, other officers, conference chair, etc. Past Delegates and other interested stakeholders from the association may join the forum. This space provides an opportunity to share, discuss and ask questions from chapter colleagues across the country.

  • 1.  NEW - White House Petition - Signatures Needed NOW!

    Affiliately Assembly leaders -

    This morning I posted a new White House petition about including school libraries in the reauthorization of ESEA.  The petition can be found at this link:

    http://wh.gov/Wgd

    We need to get 25,000 signatures by Feb. 4th in order to get a response from the White House.  Please challenge your members to not only sign the petition, but to get their friends, their teachers, their parents, etc.  If everyone got 10 people to sign it, we'd hit the 25,000 in no time. 

    I'd like to ask you to please post it on your state listservs, your Twitter feeds, and your Facebook pages.  Please use any and all communication methods you have to get the word out and encourage people to sign.  We'll be working on this for the next 30 days, so periodical reminders to your members would be great!

    I have tried twice to sign the petition but never get the confirming email that lets me go backk to register.  Any idea of what is happening?

    Several have emailed me with the same issue.  I will contact Carl (the originator of the post) to ask his advice.

    The first two times I tried it I later realized I was trying to register under "create"..... third time I noticed what I was doing wrong and it worked immediately....

    I have a few folks email me or let me know that they had trouble.  Couple of things we've tried that seems to help....

    1.) After clicking on the link in the confirming email, log out of the White House.  Log back in and find the petition and the signing button seems to work better.

    2.) Some have tried different browers and that has helped.

    3.) A few folks even just went to a different computer and that helped, too.

    As I dig through my email I might find a few more ideas, too!

    Thanks to all for keeping at it.  I'll try to get these suggestions posted out later today! :)
