Colleagues,
As you may remember, AASL is a Project Collaborator for the Future Ready Librarians initiative (http://futureready.org/about-the-effort/librarians/), and we were fortunate to have Sara Trettin from the US Department of Education, Office of Educational Technology, share information about Future Ready with us at Affiliate Assembly in Orlando at the June 2016 ALA Annual Conference.
AASL immediate past president Leslie Preddy and I participated in a Future Ready conference call yesterday, and I’d like to share some information with you:
- Reimagining the Role of Technology in Education: 2017 National Educational Technology Plan Update was released today (https://tech.ed.gov/netp/) and three new school library examples are featured.
- You may have seen the call for peer reviewers for ESSA State Implementation Plans (https://www2.ed.gov/admins/lead/account/stateplan17/index.html) Applications are due by January 27, 2017. Sara indicated that it would be ideal to have a school librarian on each review team! Wouldn’t that be amazing? Please take a look at the webpage linked here and consider applying.
- Finally, Sara also highlighted the US DOE School Ambassador Fellowship Program and encouraged librarians to apply. The deadline is February 6, 2017. More information is available at https://www2.ed.gov/programs/schoolfellowship/index.html?src=taf-header
Please share this information with your members.
I look forward to seeing you soon at ALA Midwinter in Atlanta.
Audrey Church
2016-2017 AASL President
