Membership in the AASL Chapters Forum is open to all and may include the state-level school library association’s president/chair, other officers, conference chair, etc. Past Delegates and other interested stakeholders from the association may join the forum. This space provides an opportunity to share, discuss and ask questions from chapter colleagues across the country.

Participation on this site is regulated by ALA’s Online Code of Conduct.

  • 1.  Election Results

    As you know, ALA and AASL election results were announced yesterday.


    Our proposed Bylaws Amendment to change the composition of the AASL Board of Directors from "...two at-large members..." to "one at-large member, the current chair of the Affiliate Assembly..." was approved by a vote of 943 to 32.  


    We welcome current Affiliate Assembly Chair Mona Batchelor to the AASL Board of Directors!  Mona will represent the Affiliate Assembly on the May 11 Board of Directors call and at the Board I and II meetings at Annual Conference in Chicago.  Kelly Miller, incoming Affiliate Assembly Chair, will represent Affiliate Assembly on the AASL Board beginning at Board III at Annual.


    On a related note, while we still have work to do, we did raise our voting percentage and percentage of AASL members elected to AASL Council with our GOTV campaign:  



    • 2016: 13.9% of AASL members voted (compared to 20% of YALSA members, 25.2% of ALSC members, 23.6% of PLA members, 26.7% of ACRL members)

    • 2017:  19.2% of AASL members voted (compared to 21.4% of YALSA members, 26.9% of ALSC, 21.3% of PLA members, 26.7% of ACRL members)



    • In 2016 three AASL members were elected to ALA Council out of 10 AASL member candidates.  In 2017 seven AASL members were elected to Council out of 17 AASL member candidates.
