    Description of Work

    Library faculty engage in service to the University, community, and profession. Library faculty serve current and future UNCCharlotte students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the Greater Charlotte and global community by sustaining the intellectual and creative life, and facilitating lifelong learning, discovery, and engagement.


    Library faculty are expected to collaborate within the Library and beyond in the performance of professional duties that may include, but are not limited to: selecting, organizing, preserving, and facilitating access to materials; supporting teaching, learning, and research; providing outreach to the campus and community; and developing and maintaining digital and technological innovations.


    Library faculty participate in scholarly research, creative endeavors, and professional activities to serve the Library, the University, and the information professions. Library faculty are strongly encouraged to pursue external funding for library-related initiatives.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    - Actively engage with academic programs, and university and external communities in assigned subject areas 
    - Teach research instruction sessions for assigned subjects and academic programs
    - Develop appropriate instructional and informational aids for students, faculty, and community patrons
    - Serve as collection development liaison for assigned subjects, and expend budget lines for acquisition of materials
    - Provide research and reference support for assigned subjects to students, faculty, and community patrons
    - Conduct collection evaluations for all proposed new courses and curriculum changes in assigned departments
    - Engage in professional service and scholarly contributions; participate in committees and faculty governance in the library and on campus
    - Communicate effectively and positively with diverse groups of individuals


    Additional Duties & Responsibilities
    - Participate in the provision of in-person and virtual research services and of instruction for first-year undergraduate students
    - Perform other duties as assigned


    Minimum Experience/Education

    The minimum academic credential required for applicants for faculty positions in Atkins Library is completion of a master’s degree in the field of library and information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association by time of interview.


    Graduation with master’s degree in a specialized area directly relevant to the position description may be an acceptable substitute in certain situations if approved by the Dean. A second masters in another discipline or an earned doctorate is highly desirable.


    Preferred Education, Skills and Experience

    - Instructional or liaison experience in an academic research library
    - Degree or significant coursework in one or more disciplines of Education or other Social Science
    - Knowledge of the research needs of students and faculty at a Doctoral Intensive Institution
    - Knowledge of the structure, use, and preservation of information resources in assigned areas
    - Excellent oral and written communication skills
    - Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently
    - Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and to create an environment of mutual respect
    - Knowledge of relevant professional and technological issues in assigned areas
    - Ability to work effectively in an organization in which change is both necessary and constant
    - Demonstrated commitment to exceptional public service
    - Intellectual curiosity and adaptability
