Enhance your career at an innovative college library and develop a broad portfolio in research and pedagogy.  The Swarthmore College Libraries seek an intellectually curious recent MLS/MLIS/MI graduate or CLIR Postdoctoral Fellow for the position of Research & Instruction Resident Librarian. We are seeking an outgoing and proactive individual who can develop collaborative relationships with students, staff and faculty to promote research, teaching, and learning.

As a core member of the Research & Instruction Department, the Resident Librarian will participate in the full range of research services including reference, instruction and collection development. The Resident will serve on one or more library committees. Academic department liaison work will be primarily collaborative with subject librarians and based upon subject expertise including undergraduate major, as well as the needs of the library.
 
 
Key areas of responsibility include:
 
- Supervising and mentoring participants in the Research and Information Associates (RIAs) peer learning program
- Fostering student engagement with digital citizenship and critical information literacy through the development of innovative programming and instructional materials
- Assisting with the design and delivery of the Spring Library Internship, an annual 13-week non-credit seminar created to recruit a diverse and talented undergraduate pool to librarianship
 
The Resident Librarian will be encouraged to actively engage in research, scholarship, and professional activities, and will be supported in pursuing professional development. As part of the Research & Instruction Department, the Swarthmore Libraries, and the Tri-College Libraries, the incumbent will have access to a broad network of supportive colleagues and will be given mentorship opportunities.                                                 
 
 
Qualifications:  
                                                       
- ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science or CLIR Postdoctoral Fellow  (entry-level candidates welcome)
- Strong interest in digital information literacy and pedagogy
- Interest in pursuing a career in academic librarianship                                                                             
 
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Initiative, flexibility, and a strong service orientation
- Self-motivated approach to problem-solving
 
Preferred:
- Experience or coursework in reference or teaching at a post-secondary level
