    San Diego State University Library & Information Access seeks an innovative and user-oriented information professional for the position of Health Sciences Librarian.  Reporting to the Associate Dean and serving as a member of the reference and instruction team, the Health Sciences Librarian is actively involved in outreach and engagement, research services, teaching and learning, and collection development supporting the health sciences at SDSU.


    The Health Sciences librarian is a full-time, tenure track position appointed at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian (Ranks: Sr. Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian, Librarian); entry level librarians with a health or life sciences background are encouraged to apply.  Tenure is dependent upon continuing library service effectiveness, professional growth and development, and service to the University and community. The salary is commensurate with experience, and provides excellent benefits, including medical, dental, and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), and 24 vacation days per year.


    Duties and Responsibilities


    The successful candidate will:



    • Proactively seek partnerships with faculty and students in the College of Health and Human Services, including the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences, School of Nursing, and the Graduate School of Public Health;

    • Take a leadership role in implementing, and assessing collections and services in support of the relevant academic departments;

    • Initiate and conduct course-related information literacy instruction for the health sciences;

    • Provide subject specific reference and research support for the health sciences;

    • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver, assess, and improve library teaching and learning initiatives;

    • Participate as a research services librarian providing general reference and instruction as needed;

    • Participate in the shared governance of San Diego State University by serving on library, campus-wide, and California State University committees as needed.


     


    Required Qualifications



    • An ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent foreign degree;

    • A background in the health or life sciences, or a knowledge of health sciences librarianship;

    • An understanding of the current research, information sources, and scholarly trends in the health sciences;

    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills;

    • Self-motivation with demonstrated ability to work independently and as a contributing member of a multidisciplinary team;

    • Potential for meeting the requirements for tenure and promotion based on library service, professional growth, and service to the University and community;

    • A demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity.


     


    Desired Qualifications



    • Experience teaching evidence based medicine (EBM) process to undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of disciplines;

    • Experience with learning management systems, such as Blackboard;

    • Experience with Endnote or other citation management systems.
