Coordinator for the Avon Williams Campus Library, Tennessee State University

Job Description

The Coordinator for the Avon Williams Campus Library provides overall leadership and direction for Library and Technology Services, and e-Resources. The incumbent will supervise staff of three librarians and four support positions.

The Coordinator will work closely with the Dean and other Library staff to develop an effective and efficient unit that supports University programs, faculty, administrators and staff. The Coordinator will also work closely with departments and colleges located on the Avon Williams Campus that includes, but are not limited to The College of Public Services and Urban Studies, The College of Business, Distance Education Student Support Services for Adult, etc.

The incumbent will also identify and review new and emerging technology resources that may be adopted to enhance research and service. The Coordinator, including staff, will provide undergraduate and graduate Information Literacy/ Bibliographic Instruction services to faculty requesting instruction of e-resources and other available technological services that support their programs. The Coordinator will collaborate with the heads of other Main Campus Departments, i.e. Manager of Circulation and Reserves, Head of Reference, Head of Cataloging, Head of Special Collections, Coordinator of Media Services and Coordinator of Collection Management on projects and assignments as a member of the Library Management Team.

This is a twelve-month, tenure track appointment with assistant professor rank and reports to the Dean of the Library. Performs other duties related to Library technology as needed to accomplish the goals of the Library and the University. Works hands-on and troubleshoots when necessary. The Coordinator will engage in scholarly and service activities as required for tenure and promotion.

Compiles, reports, analyzes and assesses appropriate statistics for areas of responsibility. May provide research help in-person and online to a diverse student population. This may include regularly scheduled evening and weekend duties during the semester. Will serve as a liaison to one or more of the departments mentioned above and provide information literacy instruction and collection development support. The incumbent is encouraged to represent the Library/University in professional activities on the state, regional, and national levels. The incumbent will also work to further enhance the Library’s priority and reputation for providing outstanding customer service within a welcoming, friendly, and collegial environment. Incumbent will be responsible for supporting the general recruitment, persistence, retention and graduation goals of Tennessee State University and will also fulfill other tasks as assigned by the Dean.

Required Qualifications: An ALA-accredited master’s degree or international equivalent in Library or Information Science. At least two years of relevant experience in an academic Library with evidence of broad, in-depth knowledge, skills, and experiences with technology. Experience with an ILS, Electronic Resource Management and other technological applications. Should have evidence of successful supervision and management of full-time Library personnel.

Preferred Qualifications: Strong understanding of Innovative/Sierra ILS functions. Ability to work toward achieving tenure and promotion. Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with library and campus colleagues. Understanding of Web Services, and Library Commons Support in an academic library. Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Evidence of the ability to concurrently manage multiple projects and staff, troubleshoot computing problems, plan and manage change in the library’s computing environment, and act as liaison with other information technology professionals and ability to work independently.
