    The University of Houston seeks a dynamic, collaborative, experienced leader with the vision to administer a new library facility and execute a program of services for a newly designed health sciences complex, projected to include patient care services, workforce training programs, undergraduate and graduate instruction, research labs, and community outreach. 


    Responsibilities: Supervise, train and evaluate librarians and staff with expertise in disciplines in the health sciences and related fields, including optometry, pharmacy, nursing, communication disorders, behavioral health, physical therapy, public health, and social work. Establish reference, library instruction, and research support services. Advance emerging services including data management and digital scholarship for the health sciences. Develop collections and information access and support in health informatics. Support state-of-the-art computing and studio facilities for both individual and group work. Fashion library liaison services for the researchers, clinicians, and students housed in the complex.  Develop consumer health services for patients visiting the health sciences complex.  Collaborate with science librarians to manage collections. Reports to the Associate Dean for Academic and Research Services.


    The Director of Library Services for Health Sciences is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians, and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning.

    Required Qualifications: Master’s Degree from an ALA-accredited program; subject background in health sciences; supervisory experience; excellent communication skills and strong service orientation; ability to work in team-based environment. 


    Preferred Qualifications: AHIP certification; research library experience, and experience with systematic reviews.


    Salary: $86,000-$92,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications.
