    MAJOR FUNCTION: This is an academic, innovative, visionary leadership position responsible for TCC’s Division of Library Services, which is housed on the main campus of Tallahassee Community College in the Academic Affairs Division. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Director provides strategic leadership of library services and collections. The Director is responsible for planning, budget, and staffing in support of the academic and information needs of faculty, students, and staff. The successful candidate will be a dynamic leader with the strong understanding of the evolving role of the library as a flexible environment built to accommodate multiple learning activities. Other duties include; supervision of full-time staff, reference and instruction services, library facilities, coordination of information technology, outreach to the community, collaboration with campus administrators to meet strategic goals, and assessment of library services.

    MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Master’s Degree in Library Sciences (MLS) or Information Sciences (MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution. Three years of progressively responsible leadership experience in the library or related profession is also required.

    SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Knowledge of all aspects of library operations, including collection development, bibliographic control, resource sharing, library instruction, reference services, emerging technologies, and trends in academic libraries. Knowledge of theories, practices, and modern trends of the profession. Knowledge of local, state, national, and professional issues relating to library services. Knowledge of the community college and its role in student success and the changing post-secondary education landscape. Ability to envision the 21st century library and implement a strategic plan for it and its services. Ability to prepare and manage a complex budget. Ability to provide effective and transformative leadership. Ability to define and implement an effective staff development plan. Ability to demonstrate effective decision-making. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, staff, and the community. Ability to work collaboratively with academic and other college leaders on campus and throughout the state. Ability to assess, implement and evaluate the needs for library programs and services. Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of library programs and services. Ability to work with a diverse student population and meet their evolving needs and the requirements of their academic work. Skill in the use of computer, internet, and software appropriate to management and operations at TCC.
