    Job Summary: The Technical Services Librarian is responsible for the efficient and effective management of all physical and electronic library collections. Primary areas of responsibility are copy and original cataloging in all formats, maintaining the hosted Koha open-source integrated library system, ensuring continuous access to online resources, participating in a robust collection assessment and evaluation program, and coordinating access to archival and special collections in accordance with university policy. Required work hours include weekends and evenings on occasion. 


    Job Duties: 



    • Copy and original cataloging: Copy catalog materials in all formats. Create original full level bibliographic records in accordance with current national cataloging standards (LCSH, RDA). Occasional foreign language cataloging in non-Roman scripts, particularly Tibetan and Sanskrit. Maintain holdings in OCLC. Interact with relevant consortia and/or vendors.  

    • Maintain hosted Koha open-source ILS: Work closely with host vendor to resolve problems or implement new features. Configure policy settings to achieve desired functionality. 

    • Ensure continuous access to online resources: Maintain Serials Solutions E-Journal Portal and EZproxy server configuration file. Work closely with the IT Department to prevent technical difficulties when possible and correct them promptly when they occur. 

    • Periodicals Management: Works with the Administrative Coordinator to maintain records for article databases and holdings of print periodicals. Manages link resolvers and other electronic resource enhancements. 

    • Participate in collection assessment and evaluation: Configure systems to allow for easy reporting of desired measures and indicators. Generate monthly reports of desired measures and indicators. Collaborate with other staff and faculty in identifying desired measures and indicators and disseminating results.

    • Coordinate access to archival and special collections: Prioritize requests for access according to university policy and available library resources. Work closely with partner institutions and organizations to reduce barriers to access. Arrange and describe special collections and archival materials, including processing theses. Create finding aids and subject guides as needed, in both print and electronic formats.

    • Reference and instruction: Provide reference services for all collections and oversee the use of materials by patrons as needed. Create exhibits and displays. Share in the instructional duties of professional library staff as needed.  

    • Faculty Liaison: Act as liaison to at least one academic school. Responsible for faculty relations, student research, and library acquisitions for the academic school.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    • ALA-accredited Master of Library Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Current MLS students expecting to receive their degree within one year are welcome to apply if they also have at least one year of relevant academic library experience.

    Minimum Qualifications:  



    • Demonstrated experience working with an integrated library system.

    • Coursework in cataloging and classification.

    • Basic knowledge of principles and practices of database architecture.

    • Interest in professional development and training opportunities.

    • An understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace.

    • Commitment to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development, including openness to feedback and on-going self-examination.


    Preferred Qualifications:



    • Previous academic library experience.

    • Previous original cataloging experience.

    • Training or work experience with MySQL.

    • Experience working with Koha integrated library system.

    • Experience in faculty relations.

    • Cataloging ability in Sanskrit or Tibetan.
