    Responsibilities: The University of Houston Libraries seeks an English liaison librarian with knowledge of or experience in the study of digital humanities. In addition to responsibilities for collection development, instruction, outreach, and research support for the Department of English, which offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in British & American Literature, Creative Writing, and Rhetoric & Composition, the position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the UH Libraries effort to advance digital research services. The English Librarian will contribute toward this effort in collaboration with the Humanities Team and the Liaison Services Department to build expertise and research services to facilitate faculty and student digital humanities projects. These opportunities will further the success of a new Digital Research Commons in the library. The successful candidate will also work proactively to enhance information literacy education to upper-level undergraduate and graduate programs, and will work with the Instruction Team to enhance and teach information literacy skills in lower-level composition and rhetoric courses.


    Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning.


    Qualifications –


    Required:
    • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program
    • Demonstrated excellent communication skill and strong service orientation
    • Ability to work strategically in a complex, changing environment
    • Proven capacity to work effectively and collegially in teams with staff at all levels as well as faculty and students.
    • Degree or significant coursework in English; or professional experience working with English department students and faculty in an research library setting
    • Demonstrated awareness of faculty and graduate student needs at a research institution
    • Demonstrated knowledge of research and digital humanities trends and principles
    Preferred:
    • Experience in library instruction and assessment
    • Experience in collection development
    • Project management skills
    • Demonstrated initiative and creativity
    • Familiarity or experience with tools and techniques for the digital humanities

    Salary: $56,000 to 58,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.
