    POSITION DESCRIPTION:


    Reporting to the Deputy City Librarian, the Chief Analytics Officer will lead a new Research, Strategy and Analytics Unit with system-wide charge and organizational responsibility to collect, organize, validate and analyze data from a variety of sources and advance a data-driven culture within San Francisco Public Library (SFPL). The Chief Analytics Officer is a senior management level position and a key member of SFPL’s executive leadership team to improve efficiencies, demonstrate outcomes, provide analytical support and develop performance metrics for new projects and initiatives. The Chief Analytics Officer will serve as SFPL’s lead consultant tasked with manipulating data into actionable insights to inform understanding of patron’s usage behaviors, residents’ needs for library services and changing community demographics. These efforts will influence strategic initiatives and service planning for SFPL.

    Essential job duties include, but are not limited to:


    • Plan, monitor, evaluate and supervise the operation of the Research, Strategy and Analytics Unit.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of both performance metrics for SFPL processes, projects and initiatives and business intelligence software to collect, analyze and display operational metrics related to SFPL’s strategic initiatives.
    • Oversee the development of both reports and dashboards for staff and management to monitor progress toward achieving Departmental goals and objectives.
    • Oversee the design, coordination and evaluation of ongoing survey instruments for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Direct the preparation and maintenance of complex statistical and operational reports for SFPL Management, Library Commission and City and County of San Francisco partners designed to inform management decisions.
    • Direct the gathering and complex analysis of information necessary to document and evaluate processes.
    • Monitor trends in library usage to inform data driven decision making and resource allocation.
    • Analyze and evaluate programs, including grants funded by the Friends of San Francisco Public Library.
    • Serve as SFPL’s lead consultant tasked with manipulating library usage data into actionable insights.
    • Contribute to the development of policy recommendations and implementation of SFPL policies and procedures.
    • Identify emerging trends.
    • Assist in the implementation of new innovations and programs.
    • Work with SFPL’s executive leadership team in the determination of resource allocation and levels of service according to established policies.
    • Develop, implement and direct major or complex projects or programs which span a number of SFPL’s established sections or divisions.
    • Give guidance in the identification and development of SFPL’s measures, targets and initiatives.
    • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
