    The Library is now accepting applications for one full-time position at Chinatown Branch in Class 3618. This position requires possession of Cantonese and English bilingual skills. Candidates who do not possess the designated bilingual skills will not be appointed to bilingual position. A language proficiency test may be administered prior to appointment to this position.


    Position Description
    Under supervision, the Library Technical Assistant II performs various routine phases of technical library work; exercises work direction over subordinate personnel; explains and carries out established methods and procedures; makes regular contacts with the general public, outside organizations and library personnel in connection with library operations and activities; and prepares and/or maintains various files and records. The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervising subordinate staff, training new hires and conducting performance evaluations; preparing staff assignments; planning and monitoring the operation of library circulation and/or reserve functions; responding to inquires made in person, over the telephone, or by regular or electronic mail; interpreting and/or editing catalog records and maintaining cataloging system; conducting physical and bibliographic searches for library material; performing a variety of library clerical tasks such as typing library documents and processing library information and materials; writing routine correspondence; compiling information/data and generating reports; preparing and revising various forms; performing basic maintenance of office and library equipment; overseeing daily cash management and all other fines/fees matters for the branch; interpreting and explaining library rules and policy; resolving library users’ complaints related to circulation policy matters; assisting library users in the use of library services; supervising shelving and shelf maintenance; overseeing processing of library materials; overseeing maintenance of office supplies; using basic reference resources to locate information for the public; working the circulation and information desks; and performing other job related duties as required.
