    At Trinity University’s Elizabeth Huth Coates Library, we believe that together, archives and special collections have a crucial role to play in the future of the academic library. We therefore seek qualified candidates for the position of archivist who are passionate about caring for and sharing the institution’s archival materials.

    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    Reporting to the Head of Collection Strategies & Resource Sharing, this contract staff position is full-time. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on a university archives by surveying and assessing the existing archives, recommending a plan to process a backlog of materials, offering recommendations for the organization of space, implementing up-to-date processing procedures, and planning and implementing technology related to the management of archival collections, including reformatting, data migration, and the management of born-digital resources. The archivist


    ● Administers and plans all aspects of the operation and care of the Elizabeth Huth Coates Library’s archives.
    ● Establishes priorities, goals, and objectives for the archives.
    ● Develops and implements policies, procedures, and standards for efficient and effective operation and maintenance.
    ● Makes the archives visible and promotes their use.
    ● Supervises student workers and, upon occasion, guides classified staff.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Required:
    Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program with a concentration in archival studies, master’s degree in archives and records administration or archival studies, or an advanced degree in history with archival certification (Certified Archivist). A minimum of 5 years of professional archives experience. Knowledge of and experience with descriptive standards such as DACS, EAD, and Dublin Core. Experience working with one or more collections management systems, content management systems, and/or digital preservation systems (e.g., Archon, Archivists’ Toolkit, ArchivesSpace, CONTENTdm, etc.). Demonstrated commitment to high-quality technical and public service.


    Preferred:
    Experience managing archival collections and institutional records in an academic setting. Digital Archives Specialist certification or has coursework or training in digital archives, including knowledge of accessioning and processing methodologies relating to born-digital materials and understanding of digital preservation. Demonstrated ability to provide reference service related to archival materials and to work cooperatively with colleagues in the library and on campus. Good writing skills. Experience with environmental monitoring, disaster planning, in-house conservation, reformatting, and data migration. Familiarity with the variety of services available through outside vendors. Understanding of copyright and rights management issues and of privacy laws relating to analog and born-digital collections. Project management experience. Knowledge of integrated library systems and understanding of descriptive cataloging.
