Children’s Librarian
Trotwood Branch library
The Dayton Metro Library is seeking a dedicated, patron focused Children Librarian to work as a team member at the Trotwood Branch Library.
Job Responsibilities: Demonstrates excellent internal and external customer service. Creates a welcoming atmosphere in the Children’s area through personal presence and areas design. Provides library users with assistance in reference, readers’ advisory, information literacy, and in the use of library materials and reference resources. Assists patrons in finding and selecting library materials, and in the use of the public computers, personal electronic devices, and library virtual materials. Designs, promotes, presents and evaluates children’s programs and activities which address community needs and offer tie-ins to library materials. Provides service and maintains liaisons with schools and community agencies. Provides library outreach programs and school visits which meet community needs. Maintains attractive appearance of Children’s area. Creates displays to promote library use. Evaluates and suggests titles for purchase or replacement. Reevaluates and deselects materials which need to be cancelled, repaired, replaced or redistributed. Submits required reports and budget requests. Serves on library committees. Attends Children’s department meetings. Assists with system-wide children’s programs, activities and initiatives. Performs circulation responsibilities and related activities as needed.
Job Qualifications: Ability to use Internet and other new information technologies; ability to work effectively with schools and other community organizations; knowledge of children’s literature and collection development methods; experience working with planning and presenting children’s programs, and excellent community relation skills required. MLIS (preferred) or its equivalent in education and experience required.
Salary and Benefits: $41,724-$45,801. Plus excellent benefit package.
