    Clayton State University Library seeks an enthusiastic entry level reference and instruction librarian to provide innovative reference support, instruction, and outreach services to Clayton State University faculty, staff, and students.


    The successful candidate will show a strong sense of community values and embrace the Clayton State philosophy by supporting diversity, teaching excellence, student academic goals, creativity and desire to learn. The successful candidate will actively participate with the other librarians in the information literacy program at the Clayton State University Library, demonstrating knowledge and flexibility with current trends in library technology, electronic resources, and information services. Schedule requires one evening a week, and may include an additional evening and occasional weekend hours.


    Required Education and Experience
    • ALA accredited Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Sciences prior to start date.
    • Ability to work productively, both independently, and as a part of a team.
    • Strong commitment to public service and enthusiasm to work in the public services area of the library.
    • Ability to pass a background check.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Reference experience in an academic library or a public library and experience with preparation of reference guides and tools.
    • Knowledge/experience in information literacy instruction and assessment of student learning.
    • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.


     


    Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Sciences prior to start date.


     


    Responsibilities


    • Create and deliver library instruction and assess student learning outcomes.
    • Provide reference and research assistance, face to face, electronically, and by phone.
    • Develop liaison relationships with faculty in assigned subject areas in support of common educational goals.
    • Participate in the collection development process by evaluating and selecting materials.
    • Involvement in outreach opportunities to the campus and to other constituencies.
    • Collaborate with library staff to promote library awareness and participate in campus committees as appropriate.
    • Supervise student assistants.


    Physical Demands
    This position requires frequent sitting, using hands and fingers for keyboarding, handling and feeling objects to control computer and print resources. This employee will need to be able to stand, walk, reach, climb and maintain balance. Employee needs to be able to move or lift up to ten pounds.
