San Mateo County Libraries are an invaluable community resource, an amazing family, a springboard for opportunities, and our staff are what makes it so special. We're champions of learning, sharing, and exploration -- of open minds, new ideas, and bright futures. It's our mission and our passion to strengthen our community by creating an inclusive sense of place and an environment for learning. We seek enthusiastic team players, creative risk takers, and flexible individuals who proactively search for new opportunities to make public library services relevant to all members of the community. The Senior Librarian position is an opportunity for skilled librarians to gain supervisory experience and move forward in their careers. Join the San Mateo County Libraries team and become a champion of what libraries can be and do in their communities.

The Senior Librarian is the front-line supervisory level in the librarian series. It is distinguished from the Library Branch Manager in that the latter is responsible for higher-level management activities (planning, goal-setting, budgeting, representing the Library, etc.). It is distinguished from the Librarian I/II position in that the Senior Librarian directly supervises staff and directs the activities of a community library/division.

Under general direction, the Senior Librarian will:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of an assigned library/division and supervise staff
Provide excellent customer service, develop innovative, relevant community programs and outreach, manage collections, and coach staff to do the same
Take the lead on complex and specialized assignments within their library/division, as well as system wide
    Perform related duties as assigned
    The ideal candidate will be:
able to work regularly scheduled evening and weekend shifts
excited about new projects and challenges and energized by working in a rapidly changing environment
a positive, enthusiastic leader with strong interpersonal skills
focused on professional growth and development
Because of the diversity of the communities served, the Library strongly encourages individuals with fluent bilingual language skills to apply, especially those with Spanish-English, Mandarin-English, and/or Cantonese-English language skills. Bilingual skills are preferred, but not required, for this position.

Current vacancies are at the Woodside Library, Portola Valley Library, and San Carlos Library. Visit www.smcl.org to learn more about San Mateo County Libraries.
