There are some decisions the board will need to make to finalize the budget before the vote at annual conference. I’m outlining them here so they can be discussed at Monday’s meeting.

    1. The past budgets have included travel expenses for award recipients or guest speakers. Generally, ALA units don’t pay for members to travel to conference.  It is recommended that the board approve spending guidelines when determining what each budget line will include. It is recommended that if any expenses outside of the award and the plaque be budgeted it be taken out of operating expenses. About $2400.

    2. The Oboler award fund has been depleted. The IFRT needs to choose whether to eliminate the award or transfer $10,000 from the administrative fund, to the Oboler fund which will continue the award for another 10 years.

    3. In the past, the Hodges award is allocated $1000 for the award but it is unclear yet if that will continue. IFRT needs to decide if they want the other $1380 to be an expense out of the operating budget or funds that need to be raised annually.

    4. Currently the board uses Scribes to purchase plaques for the recipients. The board should decide if they would like to continue with this expense or source out other alternatives.

    5. Does the board want specific amounts designated in the budget for projects such as Emerging Leaders, membership perks, scholarships, fundraisers, tshirts?
