Minutes

Welcome and Call to Order - Joseph Eagan

Introductions

Minutes of January 26, 2019 meeting

There is a correction regarding the awards. The Horrocks award was not eliminated. The RMRT Awards Committee will manage both the Horrocks Award and the Gadfly Award.

Nann Hilyard moved to approve the minutes with the correction about the award. Second by Cathy Marriott.  All in favor.

Nann Hilyard reported that Pat Hogan had an accident at the National Portrait Gallery and broke her hip. She received good attention and went to George Washington Hospital. Nann ordered flowers on behalf of RMRT. The group made donations for the flowers and signed a card for Pat. Thanks to Nann for staying with Pat Hogan.

The Norman Horrocks – Rowman & Littlefield Travel Grant Award was presented to Rocco Staino.

Naomi Angier, Acting Treasurer, presented the Treasurer’s Report effective April 30, 2019.

Liaison Reports

Nann Hilyard reported for Nancy Bolt for Freedom to Read Foundation, Challenges are seen in the area of social media at this time. The FTRF 50th anniversary celebration will take place this evening.

Nann Hilyard reported on the Conference Program Coordination Committee.  The jury selection program and the rubric are now in place. Programs must fit the topic of conference. Collaboration is preferred. A new format for Midwinter will be introduced in 2021 in Indianapolis.  In 2022 there will be a consolidated midwinter.

Joseph Eagan reported on the Round Table Coordinating Assembly, RTCA. Their discussion on the Steering Committee Organization report was not positive.

Terri Grief reported on Steering Committee on Organization, SCOE. A lot of conversation took place about the proposals. Generally people feel that this proposal is a draft. The committee requests comments by July 30. More work needs to be done. There is a desire to down-size to give staff more time for valuable work. SCOE is presenting on the report and asking for input during the conference. Members of RMRT are encouraged to send in their comments to ALA.

Future Program Planning

Joseph Eagan reported that it was difficult to do a presidential program this year. He suggests collaboration with other round tables, vendors or divisions. We may partner with United for Libraries.

RMRT dinners

We have a lot of criteria in a restaurant including good food, location, price point, access, time of day/evening, etc. It is easier to locate an appropriate restaurant at midwinter than at annual.

For annual, Nann Hilyard is thinking of different possibilities. We may not do a dinner but do something else. Nann is also looking for an event for dinner at annual.

Joseph made a motion that the board authorize expenditure of up to $400 for a gathering of RMRT members at the 2020 annual conference. Seconded by Cathie Marriott. All in favor.

We have a slot on the ALA Jury for the 2020 Conference Programs. Ann Marie Pipkin would like to serve on that slot. Agreed by consensus.

Meeting adjourned at 3:47.
