    Posted Nov 20, 2024 12:32 PM

    Dear Friends,

I serve as the RMRT Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF) liaison.

If you are not a FTRF member, it is likely you did not receive the November 7th communication below from Sophia Sotilleo, FTRF President, and Deborah Caldwell Stone, Executive Director.

I hope you will make time to read the statement below.

    Sincerely,
    Judi

A Statement from the Freedom to Read Foundation

From its founding in 1969, the Freedom to Read Foundation and its members, staff, and supporters have fought to protect and defend the First Amendment, with a particular mission to foster libraries as institutions where every individual's First Amendment freedoms are fulfilled and to support the right of libraries to include in their collections and make available any work which they may legally acquire.  We do this with an unwavering belief that the freedom to read is essential for assuring every person's liberty, and that libraries are an essential foundation for a healthy, inclusive democracy.

The current moment calls us to reaffirm our mission and our commitment to engage in legal actions to defend the freedom to read, advance social justice, and uphold democracy and the rule of law for the benefit of all who live in the United States. Now, more than ever, this work is essential.

We invite you to join us in this important work. Please consider joining the Freedom to Read Foundation and supporting our work through a donation. To learn more about the  Freedom to Read Foundation and our ongoing efforts, visit ftrf.org.
