Is the book club going to discuss bibliographies or metafiction? I feel I missing something about what books are going to be discussed.

    Confusedly yours,

Good question.. I think it is up to you.  I read The Paris Library, a fiction book based on a true story, that reports how the American Library in Paris stayed open during the German occupation in WWII.  I also read The Library, a non-fiction book about the fire that partially destroyed the Los Angeles Public Library and covers the history of LAPL and the value of libraries.  I also read about the history of the Freedom to Read Foundation.

I think some have read a book about the nuances of indexing.  A few months ago I read, The Personal Librarian, a fictional story based on history about the establishment of the JP Morgan rare book library by an African American who everybody thought was white.  And last year I read a book about the history of Paper and its impact on reading.

I think all these books qualify.  So use your imagination.

Latest Book: There, There by Tommy Orange.  The sad portrayal of Native Americans in Oakland, CA.  What does it mean to try and preserve Indian culture in an urban environment?  The story follows 12 Indians as they prepare for the first Oakland Pow Wow.  If you read this, be sure and get the paperback version which has a short profile of all 12 characters.  This was missing in the hardback.  Definitely for anyone interested in Native American culture.

Latest Movie:  Jurassic Park, Dominion.   It helps to have seen the prequels but not necessary.  Three separate stories are pursued until they all come together when the characters are stranded (of course) in an out-of-control dinosaur preserve.  Great CGI with at least one new dangerous creature.  Exciting escapes, heart-warming reunions, evil greedy scientists, dinosaurs fighting – what more could you want?

Thank you for the clarification; the topic is really books about libraries.

Nancy, if we give away what we've read what will we talk about at the Book Club?

Bruce, "a book about books" can mean whatever you want,  but generally the group enjoys talking about leisure reading rather than more technical stuff.
(When I think of bibliography Winchell's Guide to Reference Books comes to mind. But then again Nancy Pearl's Book Lust is a sort of bibliography, isn't it?)

who was going to talk about 84, Charing Cross Road but has found another one to enthuse about

    Hi, Nancy-
The RMRT lineup for this year sounds wonderful-I'm so sorry I won't be able to be there. My husband and I have bought a new house, and are in the midst of a cross-country move. (What were we thinking?) At the moment I am trying to settle us into a new life in Sun City, CA! My husband Ed Spicer, on the other hand, will be there-he's serving on the Newbery Committee.
         Perhaps next year?

From Kendi Kelley, incoming Treasurer RMRT
I am seriously considering not attending ALA annual.  We would be driving in Saturday (9 hours) in order to attend two meetings on Sunday.  I would have to metro in from Virginia with the unknown possibility of disruption due to the Supreme Court decision today.  I am also having a medical test (unexpected) in one week and need to stay safe from covid.

Is someone else attending Planning & Budget Assembly from 1-3?  I have reviewed Bob Holley's report from the last one and the main thing to listen for is any change in the amount ALA takes from round tables for operation costs (currently 10%). The January 2022 performance (financial) report shows us in a slightly better position than January 2021.

    Sorry for the late notice.
