The Retired Members Round Table (RMRT) shall exist to develop programs of particular interest to retired persons from all types of libraries and all forms of library services, including formal opportunities for continued involvement and learning; a variety of leadership training and opportunities for mentoring; lifelong professional involvement and networking; and active engagement in the American Library Association and the profession of librarianship.

    Thank you for sharing this - I am going to be in Chicago already visiting family and was debating whether to take the opportunity to go to ALA or not...

    I've been retired for ~2years but it's been many more years than that since I've had the chance to be at a conference.

    Do many retired folks attend?

    I have also been retired now for two years, but I am remaining active. Therefore I do the exhibit hall and certain events.

    We are excited that you are coming!  

    We have 460+ members in RMRT. I have been retired for over 16 years after 32 years of teaching/media specialist. I don't miss a conference!  I love seeing friends that I have known for 25+ years and meeting new ones. We eat out together, room together and mentor to the younger convention goers. We  all go to the conference for different reasons and enjoy different aspects of the activities. I joined RMRT when it started and have a certain loyalty to making it work. RMRT has a hard working board, awards 2 travel grants of $1,000 each, meets 4 times a year over Zoom for our book club and compiles a book list, works on new I initiatives (this year it is advocacy!)…basically we just have fun doing what we like to do!

    Sometimes my husband will come with me, and he gets to meet everyone. He and my granddaughter usually get a vendor pass and enjoy the activities in the marketplace plus she gets to pick out books and talk with authors.
