My goal as this year's chair of RMRT was to increase retired librarians' involvement in advocacy. We have more time (well, in theory), and we can't be fired. To do this, the Advocacy Committee was revived, and Dorcas Hand became chair. We have active members who are long-time activists on the committee, and we developed "Retired Librarians Make Great Advocates" recommendations for retired members as advocates. ALA members, retired or not, can use these ideas. Our premise was to create suggestions that people could consider for action, depending on how much time they have. We developed suggestions and then connected time frames to deeper ideas in linked documents.
The talented ALA staff person for RMRT, Danielle Ponton, tackled Drupal, worked with IT and committee member Jane Lofton's Canva graphics to get materials up and accessible. They are ready for action!
From the RMRT website, you can click on the featured "Retired Members make Great Advocates" block or the link to get to the active advocacy page:
https://www.ala.org/retired-librarians-make-great-advocates. There you can download the whole advocacy infographic and scroll down to each time frame as well as suggestions for "library organizations and resources" and "other related organizations."
Give it a try to make a difference for libraries! You don't have to be an RMRT member to use the resources.
Onward, Sara
