In case you hadn't heard -- Jim Rettig passed away last week.
I met him in 1987 when I was Maine Chapter Councilor,  We got to talking about "where are you from?" and it turned out we were both
from Northbrook. IL.  (Different neighborhoods and different schools, but still!)   His insights, humor, and genuine compassion are memorable.
(P.S. Read to the end of the obituary . . . a tribute to the reference librarian!)

I loved Jim's quiet leadership and gentle sense of humor.  He was a friend to everyone.

I am so sorry to read this.  Jim was truly a wonderful and kind person, not to mention a great President of ALA.  Thanks for posting this Nann.

I am so sad to hear about Jim's passing. Prayers lifted up for his family.

This is such sad news. We started our careers about the same time and crossed paths so often that I can't remember even half of them. At least early in our careers, he was the spokesperson for public services while I lobbied for technical services. But we did so in a friendly way that showed respect for each other. One of the great sadnesses of growing old is the passing of so many good friends who have been such for decades.

Jim and I were Division Presidents in early 90's and worked on several committees and projects together.

    I will definitely miss him.
