RMRT (Retired Members Round Table)

The Retired Members Round Table (RMRT) shall exist to develop programs of particular interest to retired persons from all types of libraries and all forms of library services, including formal opportunities for continued involvement and learning; a variety of leadership training and opportunities for mentoring; lifelong professional involvement and networking; and active engagement in the American Library Association and the profession of librarianship.

    ALA is pushing Lib Learn X, and I'm trying to decide whether to go.  Is RMRT having any activities in Baltimore during LLX?

    My understanding is that since we can’t have meetings at LLX and we don’t usually have a ‘program’, people are not going.

    Of course, RMRT is not the only reason pepole attend (or is it?) Anyone out there planning to go?

    Latest Book:   Maus by Arthur Spiegelman.  Both Spiegelman's autobiographical novel about his relationship with his father and a biography of his father's time as a Nazi prisoner and his experience as a holocaust survivor. This book is not for the faint of heart. The evil of the Nazis and the reality of PTSD as a survivor are realistically portrayed. The Nazis found ways to kill Jews I had not even heard of.  Banned in many libraries, of course.  

    Latest Movie:  Taylor Swift, The Eras Tour.  For my birthday, four friends and family joined me for this musical extravaganza.  I loved it.  The staging was magnificent, of course, as was the singing and dancing.  Sadly, it was hard to understand the lyrics if not familiar with the songs.  I find Swift particularly creative in the rhythm, lyrics, and meaning of her songs.  And underappreciated.

    I plan to attend both Midwinter in Baltimore and Annual in San Diego in person. I think the idea of inviting the San Diego Zoo Director is a good idea. I have visited San Diego Zoo when ALA Annual was held in San Diego. It is fantastic.
