    Dear RMRT Board and Members,

I am unable to attend the March 27th board meeting. The following is my Freedom to Read Foundation report.

    Conable Conference Scholarship:
Do you know a current library science student or a novice librarian? They may be eligible for a Freedom to Read Foundation Conable Scholarship to attend ALA 2025 in Philadelphia. The goal of this scholarship is to advance two principles that Gordon held dear: intellectual freedom and mentoring.

The scholarship provides conference registration, transportation, housing (six nights), and a $300 stipend for meals and other expenses, plus a one-year membership to FTRF. More information is available online: https://www.ftrf.org/page/Conable_Scholarship

The scholarship application is due April 14th. The application is available here: https://airtable.com/app3mKtZ2b0w0g2UK/shr2Hutd44W18JaSu

    Banned Books Week Grants:
Do you know librarians practicing in any type of institution who could use grant funds to promote Banned Books Week 2025? The Education Committee subcommittee has been working with previous FTRF Banned Books Week grant winners in order to use their information/images to stimulate the creativity of the 2025 applicants. The grant cycle will open on March 31st: https://www.ftrf.org/page/Krug_BBW (webpage under construction).

    First Amendment Advocacy:
Sometimes retired librarians are unsure of how they can continue to advocate for the freedom to read. In addition to being an active member of the FTRF, I also make a concerted effort to submit letters to the editor or op-eds to my local newspaper in support of intellectual freedom. I offer my op-ed published 3/25/25 as an example: "The Tucson community celebrates the First Amendment:" https://tucson.com/opinion/column/article_880ae151-b1c8-4bd5-b0c4-f847fe3ec2f3.html

    Best,

    Hi Judy,

Would you be okay if I summarized your report here and put it out for ALA Connect for the RMRT update?

It would go out to everyone on ALA connect and not just RMRT, let me know if this is okay with you.

    Thank you,
