The Retired Members Round Table (RMRT) shall exist to develop programs of particular interest to retired persons from all types of libraries and all forms of library services, including formal opportunities for continued involvement and learning; a variety of leadership training and opportunities for mentoring; lifelong professional involvement and networking; and active engagement in the American Library Association and the profession of librarianship.

    The Retired Members Round Table (RMRT) is pleased to invite nominations for the Norman Horrocks–Rowman & Littlefield Press Annual Conference Travel Award.

    This award honors the late Dr. Norman Horrocks, a longtime leader, mentor, and advocate within the American Library Association. His dedication to the profession continued well into retirement, embodying the RMRT spirit: "I retired from my job but not from my profession."


    Award Purpose

    This award supports a retired RMRT member in attending the ALA Annual Conference, continuing Dr. Horrocks's legacy of engagement, mentorship, and professional contribution.


    Eligibility Requirements

    Nominees must:


    🎁 Award Benefits

    The selected recipient will receive:

    • Up to $1,000 in reimbursed travel expenses (with receipts)
    • $500 advance prior to the Annual Conference
    • Complimentary registration for the Annual Conference

    Note: If the recipient is unable to attend the conference, the $500 advance must be returned.


    🗓️ Nomination Deadline

    March 30

    Nominations must include:

    • A statement (max 250 words) describing how the nominee will benefit from and contribute to the Annual Conference
    • Information about the nominee's past contributions to ALA or similar organizations

    This award applies to the Annual Conference held in the next calendar year (June 2026).
