Do you know a Gadfly? What is a Gadfly? A Gadfly is a person who poses a novel idea and does not follow the status quo. The Retired Member Round Table administers the Gadfly Travel Award for the summer ALA Annual Conference. You do not have to be a member of the Retired Members Round Table (RMRT) to nominate someone or yourself (?), you just need to be a current member of ALA who is retired from full-time employment.
The $1,000 Award will be granted for travel expenses (e.g., registration, transportation, housing, food) directly related to the Award recipient's attendance at the ALA Annual Conference. Named for Ruth Gordon, a librarian, teacher and supporter of civil liberties who passed away in 2016.
Funding for the Gadfly Travel Award comes from the Estate of Ruth Gordon. Those who are nominated should have a record of active involvement in the American Library Association prior to and during retirement.
The deadline for application is March 16, 2024.
