The Retired Members Round Table (RMRT) shall exist to develop programs of particular interest to retired persons from all types of libraries and all forms of library services, including formal opportunities for continued involvement and learning; a variety of leadership training and opportunities for mentoring; lifelong professional involvement and networking; and active engagement in the American Library Association and the profession of librarianship.

    Did you know, if you are retired, you are eligible to apply for two travel awards specifically given to retired ALA members. One award requires you to be a member of the Retired Members Round Table (RMRT).     RMRT Norman Horrocks Annual Conference Award

    Eligibility:

    • Be a member of ALA and RMRT
    • Be retired from full-time paid employment
    • Have a record of active involvement in the American Library Association prior to retirement
    • Have not previously received the Norman Horrocks Annual Conference Award.

    The recipient will be reimbursed up to $1,000 in actual expenses, supported by generally acceptable receipts.  The recipient will receive $500 advance before Annual Conference and will receive the balance after Annual Conference once receipts are submitted.  The recipient will also receive complimentary registration to attend the Annual Conference.

    If the recipient does not make it to the Annual Conference the $500 advance must be returned.

    The Ruth Gordon Gadfly Travel Award opens eligibility up to all retired ALA members, regardless of their membership status with RMRT!

    Eligibility:

    • Be a member of ALA
    • Be retired from full-time paid employment
    • Have a record of active involvement in the American Library Association prior to and during retirement
    • Have not previously received the Norman Horrocks Annual Conference Travel Award.

    Eligible applicants will provide the RMRT Awards Committee with a statement of no more than 500 words explaining how the applicant will benefit from - and contribute to - participation in the ALA Annual Conference. In a statement the applicant will also include information about the applicant's contribution to ALA and/or it's affiliates and chapters prior to - and during - retirement from full-time employment.

    A person selected for the award will be recognized at the RMRT Annual Meeting at the ALA Annual Conference.

    The $1,000 Award will be granted for travel expenses (e.g., registration, transportation, housing, food) directly related to the Award recipient's attendance at the ALA Conference. The recipient will be reimbursed up to $1,000 in actual expenses, supported by generally acceptable receipts. The recipient will receive $500 in advance before Annual Conference and will receive the balance after Annual Conference once receipts are submitted.

    If the recipient does not make it to the Annual Conference, the $500 advance must be returned.

    Remember that the deadline is this Saturday, March 16, 2024!
