The Retired Members Round Table (RMRT) shall exist to develop programs of particular interest to retired persons from all types of libraries and all forms of library services, including formal opportunities for continued involvement and learning; a variety of leadership training and opportunities for mentoring; lifelong professional involvement and networking; and active engagement in the American Library Association and the profession of librarianship.

    I’m using the annotated agenda from the combined Committee on Legislation and Legislation Assembly meeting at Annual in Orlando.  My comments are in [brackets throughout the report].  Please let me know if you have any questions about any of these issues and I’ll try and find the answers.

    1.         Introductions & Announcements


     


    2.         Where necessary, updates on Major Issues and Activities since the last pre-conference update


    a.         Appropriations – Kevin  [A Continuing Resolutions on the Budget is expected in October.  An amendment on the LC Subject Heading issue has been attached to  the House Appropriations bill, but not to the Senate bill]


     


    b.         Copyright – Adam [The WO is continuing to work on problems with the current law, no new legislation has been proposed yet.]


     


    c.         Privacy & Surveillance – Adam [The Electronic Information Privacy Act revision calls for warrants to request information.  The proposed expansion of the Patriot Act excludes the need for warrants.]


     


    d.         Government Information – Jessica  [The WO is working with a group asking for Transparency with the Transition to the New President.  The Freedom of Information Act is ready to be signed.  NTIS is to be disbanded at some point in the future.]


     


    e.         Telecom & Broadband – Kevin  [FCC Net Neutrality rules were affirmed by a District Court.  They may be appealed to the Supreme Court.  Rural Broadband Caucus has been formed in the House.]


     


    f.          Grassroots- Lisa  [National ALA Legislation Day is scheduled for May 1-2, 2017.  There will also be a Virtual Leg Day again.]


     


    g.         School Libraries – Jessica / Emily  [ The WO and AASL are working to implement the new ESSA provisions.]
