GrandMentor offers senior volunteers the opportunity to read and discuss high quality children’s picture books with disadvantaged elementary school children over Skype.

    DESCRIPTION OF CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

GrandMentor has been piloted successfully in two NYC schools and this fall we start new programs at 3 NYC schools. We are constantly looking for more reading mentors. Please, email Raquel at raquel@grandmentor.org to find out the new available schedules.

We require a commitment of 1 day per week. Each session lasts approximately 40 minutes.
Reading is done from the comfort of your home and requires no inconvenient travel!

Training on the use of Skype and our online mentor guides will be provided. It takes only an hour training session to get started! The guides provide suggestions for comprehension and vocabulary questions to ask as you read each page.

    REQUIREMENTS

    - Age 55 or older
    - Fluent English speaker
    - The use of a computer with Internet connection and a web camera.

This is a great opportunity to give back to a group of children in great need of one-to-one reading and literacy learning.
We look forward to your participation!
