Friday’s RMRT book discussion (July 24, 2020) asked members to book talk a recent read (didn’t have to be new title) and books that offer comfort in the stressful reality of COVID-19.

My apologies for misspelled names, etc.

    Here are our choices:

Kendi Keely: Recent: A Bookshop in Berlin by Francoise Frenkel; Comfort: Our Hearts Were Young and Gay by Cornelia Otis Skinner, Emily Kimbrough, et al.

Judi Repman: Recent: The Spice Necklace by Ann Vanderhoof; Comfort: The Right Sort of Man (a Sparks & Bainbridge mystery) by Allison Montclair.

Naomi Angier: Recent: Say Nothing: a true story of murder and memory in Northern Ireland by Patrick Radden Keefe. Comfort: Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Nancy Bolton: Recent: In the Room Where It Happened by John Bolton; Comfort: the Harry Potter books and movies.

Shelley Lauer: Recent: Chesapeake Requiem by Earl Swift; Comfort: the William Monk mysteries by Anne Perry.

Pat Hofmann: Recent: Island of Sea Women by Lisa See; Comfort: Lisa Scottoline’s essays.

Ann Marie Pipkin: Recent: The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich; Comfort: author Octavia E. Butler books and generally science fiction and fantasy.

Louise Sherby (or Sherley): Recent: The Last Book of Adana Moreau by Michael Zapata; Comfort: a cozy mystery series by Miranda Jones, Cheryl Holland and others.

Kay Cassell: Recent: A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles; Comfort: the Atlas Catesby mystery series by D. M. Quincey, et al.

Ginny Palmer: Recent: Hell and Other Destinations by Madeleine Albright; Comfort: In this House of Brede by Rumer Godden.

Ma’lis Wendt: Recent: Jazz by Toni Morrison and Disappearing Earth by Julia Phillips; Comfort: mysteries by Martin Walker (Bruno, Chief of Police series).

Judith Parham: Recent: The Redhead by the Side of the Road by Anne Tyler and Olive Again by Elizabeth Strout; Comfort: Mary Oliver’s poems.

Joan Atkinson: Recent: Wild by Cheryl Strayed; Comfort: Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien and the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear.

Dianne Olson: Recent: Lassoing the Sun: a year in America’s National Parks by Mark Woods; Comfort and wit: American Royals by Katherine McGee.

Nann Blaine Hillyard: Recent: The Beauty of Your Face by Sahar Mustafah and The Falcon Thief by Joshua Hammer. Comfort: Stillmeadow Road and other Stillmeadow books by Gladys Taber.

The group enjoyed this second book-sharing meeting by Zoom so much that another session will be scheduled, perhaps next month. Watch for specific plans circulated by Nann Hillyard in ALA Connect, RMRT.
