    Retired Members Round Table

    Executive Committee

    Conference Call

    Monday, October 16, 2017

    11 a.m. CT

Present by telephone:  Rosina Alaimo,  Nancy Bolt, Jean Doolittle, Joseph Eagan, Nann Hilyard, Pat Hogan, Hannah Pickworth, Ann Marie Pipkin.  Staff present: Danielle Alderson, Jeffrey Roth

Ann Marie called the meeting to order at 11:02 a.m.  She reviewed Dr. Ruth Gordon’s bequest: a scholarship called the Gadfly Travel Allowance. It was designated for ALSC but the ALSC has declined.  The ALA Development Office has asked RMRT to accept the bequest, explaining that it would be a spend-down award for approximately 20 years and consist of a $1,000 travel allowance for Annual or Midwinter expenses (transportation, housing, registration, food).  The Development Office recommends that it be open to all retired members who were active in ALA during their working years.

Jeffrey and Danielle explained the procedure:

    • RMRT appoints an ad hoc committee to determine the procedure.

    • RMRT board approves the committee recommendation.

    • The recommendation is sent to the ALA Scholarship Committee.

n  ALA Scholarship Committee ensures that the criteria and application process conform to established procedures.

    • RMRT establishes a jury to administer the award.

    The group discussed these points.

Nann moved, Jean seconded:  “That RMRT accept the bequest from Dr. Ruth Gordon to establish the Gadfly Travel Allowance.”   Motion carried unanimously.

Meeting adjourned at 11:20 a.m. CT.
